UK e-Science Registration Authority
Within the Grid it is extremely important to be able to prove your
identity to remote services in a secure and portable manner. One
solution supported by Globus, the defacto standard Grid
middleware, is the X.509 public key certificate. Your X.509
certificate is signed by a Certification Authority (CA) as a validation
of your identity. The mechanism of proving your identity takes place
through a local Registration Authority (RA).
To obtain a personal UK e-Science certificate you will need to:
- Complete a
certificate request form at the UK e-Science
CA and select
the Imperial LeSC Registration Authority.
- You will have to physically visit the Registration
Authority's operators (see below) to prove your identity and that you requested
the certificate (by quoting the PIN code).
- Having proved your identity the certificate request will be authorised and generated. Once it has been generated (you will be informed by email) you may return to the
CA, collect the certificate within your browser and export it
elsewhere.
Full technical details on these steps are provided by the CA.
