EPIC - e-Science Portal at Imperial College - Project Goals

Project Goals:

Our motivation within EPIC is to demonstrate how Grid infrastructures may be exploited by e-scientists as a routine part of their research work. This will involve:

  1. Building a Grid infrastructure at Imperial that initially links resources within LeSC and the Department of Computing.

  2. Providing access to Grid resources and applications through a portal infrastructure.

  3. Developing a web service that provides access to distributed resource management systems.

  4. Defining a policy language to capture the constraints and priorities of the user and resource providers within the Grid.

  5. Optimising job placement across Grid resources within any specified constraints through the development of super-schedulers.

This work is being undertaken in collaboration with applied scientists to ensure that the resulting infrastructure meets their requirements.
