London e-Science Centre Open Day
The Open Day, held on April 8th, was a great success with more than 120 delegates from academia, business and government, and 20 demonstrations of e-science projects from all around London.
There was also a demonstration of Access Grid technology integration, linking up with several sites across campus - which provided the opportunity to view our new node which has been developed in collaboration with inSORS.
The day was opened by Professor John Darlington, the Director of the London e-Science Centre (the slides can be downloaded here), and was followed by Professor Tony Hey, the Director of the UK e-Science Core Technology Programme who talked in depth about the current state of UK e-Science and its future directions.
The morning was closed by Dr Steven Newhouse, the London e-Science Centre Technical Director (the slides can be downloaded here), discussing the technologies being developed by the Centre, especially ICENI.
Lunch provided an opportunity for all to view the demonstrations and see what has been produced in the London area. It was also a good ground for discussing new ideas and collaborations. This was carried on into the afternoons formal Question and Answer session with Tony Hey.
